This quote is from the 2015 Cinderella movie. It takes place in the last scene when the Prince discovers who Cinderella really is. The Narrator of the movie says, “Would who she was, who she really was, be enough? There was no magic to help her this time. This is perhaps the greatest risk that any of us will take. To be seen as we truly are.”
The Prince asks Cinderella who she is and Cinderella responds, “I am Cinderella. Your Majesty, I’m no princess. I have no carriage, no parents, and no dowry. I do not even know if that beautiful slipper will fit. But if it does, will you take me as I am? An honest country girl who loves you.”
The Prince says, “Of course I will.”
To be seen as we truly are. Sounds easier than it is sometimes.
My youngest daughter is 15 and just came back from a trip to Nashville with her choral group. She texted me throughout the trip, and one particular night was very exciting for her. They went on a cruise down the Mississippi and had dinner and went dancing. Later that night she texted me that it was the best night ever! I asked why it was such a great night. She said that a large group of girls dancing on the the dance floor asked her to join in the fun. She said everyone saw her come out of her shell and no one had judged her. That’s really big for a teenage girl – to be seen as she truly is.
No matter what age we are, it is hard to not care what people think and to just be ourselves. It’s important to teach our children that God created us and if we are good enough for Him, we are good enough for everyone else! Don’t act like someone your aren’t…be who you truly are.
